The City of Missoula, widely known as one of the most livable cities in the U.S., is hiring a Chief of Police. Appointed by the City of Missoula Mayor, the Chief of Police provides leadership to approximately 110 officers and 30 civilian employees who serve as the benchmark for professionalism and public service within the State of Montana and beyond. 

In addition to a proven commitment to the principles of modern, community-based policing, the successful candidate will have demonstrated, throughout their career in law enforcement, the highest level of ethical standards and integrity. Innovative approaches to expanding cultural diversity within the Police Department and supporting cultural diversity within the Missoula community are essential qualities of the Chief. An effective communication style, both internal and external to the Police Department, will encompass the abilities to collaborate in order to build consensus among diverse individuals; resolve conflict; neutralize hostile situations; exhibit empathy; and generate support for strategic initiatives and departmental goals.
